The New Barabbas

"And Pilate, calling together the chief priests, and the magistrates, and the people, said to them: 'You have presented unto me this man, as one that perverteth the people; and behold I, having examined him before you, find no cause in this man, in those things wherein you accuse him. No, nor Herod neither. For I sent you to him, and behold, nothing worthy of death is done to him. I will chastise him therefore, and release him.' Now of necessity he was to release unto them one upon the feast day. But the whole multitude together cried out, saying: 'Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:' who, for a certain sedition made in the city, and for a murder, was cast into prison." (Luke 23:13-19)

Isn't it weird that the Jewish people wanted to have a murderer released to them? When you think about it, the scribes rallied the people to have Christ crucified, and they were even willing to accept Barabbas as the exchange. The people willingly took a murderer back from jail onto the streets. They felt so threatened by the Truth that is Christ, that they took a murderer in exchange. It sounds kinda weird doesn't it?

In our day and age, it wouldn't seem the same. Looking from the outside, one can see that our culture desires to have the same thing each and every day, and that's why there is still abortion. The pro-aborts of the nation desire to have their incomplete and false "truth" of choice that they are willing to sacrifice their babies in the name of "freedom." They are so afraid of what the Christians have to say that they are separating all Church from the state. They are ordering Christ's crucifixion in this day and age again. They are calling for Barabbas to be released by desiring more and more abortion doctors that are killing day-in and day-out. The modern culture that openly supports abortion is desiring to have murderers roam the streets because they feel oppressed by the truth of the Gospel.

I do know one thing. After Christ was crucified, the veil was torn in the temple, and the temple was destroyed about 40 years later. It's only a matter of time before the Church Militant will take up its arms and this battle for the preborn will be over. Once again, the veil will tear in two, and the temple will be destroyed. Not by modern weapons, but by the weapons of the spirit and soul. Christ will triumph again. Viva Christo Rey!
